An Introduction to Our School

We are a unique learning community spanning grades K-5 and dedicated to addressing the needs of the whole child in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust.  We believe that children learn best when they are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a variety of settings.  In brief, we emphasize three kinds of literacy – academic, artistic and civic ; and we educate our students for active and engaged citizenship in a pluralistic democracy. Our school was founded through the vision of Joanna Lennon, Executive Director of Civicorps Schools and Rich Lodish, principal of Sidwell Friends Lower School in Washington DC, among many other distinguished participants in the creation of this program. Adventures in the Creation of a Charter School is an excerpt from an essay by Rich Lodish which describes the amazing birth of Civicorps Elementary School (formerly East Bay Conservaton Corps Charter School).

If you would like the opportunity to see our mission in action, please contact the school, and we will be delighted to schedule a tour.  Our contact information is below.  You may also log on to our video page for a window into our school.
