An Introduction to Our School We are a unique learning community spanning grades K-5 and dedicated to addressing the needs of the whole child in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust. We believe that children learn best when they are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a variety of settings. In brief, we emphasize three kinds of literacy – academic, artistic and civic ; and we educate our students for active and engaged citizenship in a pluralistic democracy. Our school was founded through the vision of Joanna Lennon, Executive Director of Civicorps Schools and Rich Lodish, principal of Sidwell Friends Lower School in Washington DC, among many other distinguished participants in the creation of this program.
